Waxing tips for your boat – how to apply boat wax

To help you make the most out of your new boat wax and ensure that you apply it right, we have collated a few helpful tips.

  1. Start the process by washing your boat after securing it on a trailer. Also, make sure you cover the boat’s interior so that water does not spoil it. You can use just water or a cleaning solution for this step.
  2. If you have waxed your car before, you may find evidence of damaged wax as well. To remove this, you will need a dewaxing solution.
  3. After the cleaning process, let your boat dry.
  4. Take a polishing product and start buffing your boat. This will remove all scratches. If there is strong discoloration as well, we advise the use of a buffing compound.
  5. The process of applying polish and buffer is the same – you should do so in a circular motion.
  6. Now, you can start waxing the boat. You may need a wax application kit for this. Apply the wax in a circular motion too.
  7. Work in small sections so that you cover the whole boat evenly.
  8. Let the wax dry for a while – at least a few minutes.
  9. Buff the boat one last time and you are done.

We hope this guide helped you find the best boat wax for your boat or RV. Remember, regardless of the wax you choose you must follow all the instructions to get the expected results.

  1. Thank you for writing this post. I bought M6732 of Reguiar, quite easy to use with me and quality is good!

    1. This stuff is amazing. I did not use a buffer and did the application by hand so it did require a bit of elbow grease but the results speak for themself. I used this the remove almost 17 years of oxidation on a ’99 Chaparral I just bought to restore it to almost ‘like new’ condition.

  2. I did a lot of research on polish and wax to reinvigorate an old Boston Whaler I purchased. This product kept coming up on boating forums so I thought I would give it a try. It is definitely a great product. I combined it with 3M Finishing polish and my boat looks fantastic. I highly recommend this product.
